The Engineering Process

The engineering process is a set of steps that engineers, developers, and scientists use to create products or solutions. These products are often used in everyday life, and can solve problems faced by consumers or other users.

Students begin by defining the problem and researching it. They then identify requirements that must be met. Then students brainstorm ideas and think about what others have already done to solve this problem.

They then choose the best solution from their list and build a working prototype. This step shows that students have achieved a great deal and can see the idea become a real-life solution.

Once the students have constructed their prototypes they test them in order to determine if it works as expected. They can also use prototypes to improve their designs.

They will likely go through many prototypes before they have a design that works and is complete. This iterative process teaches them that they must keep trying to improve their designs, and they can’t be satisfied with being done until they’ve tried everything to make the best possible design.

The process of engineering can be used to solve problems throughout a student’s life, whether they decide to become engineers. They can apply the skills they learn to any project, from building skyscrapers to making sneakers.
